Mont Blanc Trails
Three country tour around the tallest massive of the Alps
The 4808 m high Mont Blanc is a challenge not only for mountaineers. Making a full circle with the bike around the Mont Blanc is one of the biggest adventures that the Alps have in store for mountain bikers. Long ascents on old military gravel roads and some of the nicest downhills in the Alps on breathtaking single-tracks are waiting for our nobby tyres at the border triangle of Italy, Switzerland, and France. Seeing that gigantic mountain, the highest in the Alps, in a different angle every day is an absolute highlight - rock crags alternate with jagged glaciers, contrasted by juicy green pastures. Nine passes are to be mastered; two of them lie above 2500 m.Starting off Les Contamines-Montjoie the route leads over Col de Voza (1653 m), a short but tricky pass, into the valley of Chamonix. Superb single-tracks take us across vineyards and apricot plantations in the Swiss Wallis. On old trading and smuggling routes we soon reach Val Ferret in Italy. The biker's heart will rejoice when beholding the single-tracks aside the glaciers of the impressive east face of Mont Blanc. The route leads on to Bourg St-Maurice in the Isère Valley, over lonely gravel roads through original, flower-decorated villages, past the Beaufortain to the western range of the Mont Blanc massif. Col du Joly (1989 m) offers the most beautiful views of the ice cap looming 2800 m above our heads. At the end of the tour we cruise down on diverse tracks into the valley.
